“CRAZY” STARTUP IDEAS THAT ARE WORTH MILLION DOLLARS

Beyond the conventional framework, “out-of-the-box” thinking is a necessary skill in a highly competitive environment like Startups. Many businesses choose to learn smart, which entails adapting existing ideas to fit their specific needs. There are also those who use their limitless creativity to build their own empire.

Here are some unusual startup ideas, two of which have resulted in millions of dollars in profits for the founder.

Pet Rock

Who would pay $19.95 to bring home a lifeless stone? Gary Dahl and the millions of Pet Rock customers are the answer. This product’s intended market is single people who want to have a pet but are too busy or do not have the financial means to care for one.

Dahl’s talent can be seen in the product packaging. Each Pet Rock is housed in a cardboard box with a delicately crafted handle. The boxes have air vents for breathing, and the “rock animals” sleep on a straw bed. Dahl also included an instruction manual in the product package, teaching customers how to feed, care for, and train the rock pet.

In 1975, Pet Rock sparked a bizarre consumer “craze,” bringing Gary Dahl both money and fame. The proof is a net profit of $15 million in only six months, as well as numerous appearances in national media. Because of Pet Rock’s enormous popularity, Newsweek dubbed it “one of the strangest yet most successful marketing efforts ever.”

Bathroom Shelf

Matt Williams came up with a very unique startup idea with a high-covered toilet shelf while visiting the toilet at the bar and not knowing where to put the beer bottle he brought. Nonstick rubber with a silver ion discharger for antibacterial properties. Furthermore, the slot containing the shelf’s advertisement has a lock to prevent someone from “conveniently” taking the advertisement.

In 2013, Williams began marketing for LavCup by attending sports-related seminars. Peter McLoughlin, President of the Seattle Seahawks football club, was the first person he approached. Within 10 weeks, LavCup received its first large order: 1,200 shelves for CenturyLink Field, the team’s home stadium.

It is known that this startup has raised more than $ 600,000 in funding from ten investors, and he also stated that LavCup’s revenue in 2017 exceeded $ 2 million. Williams is currently looking to expand LavCup distribution to cinemas or yachts.

LavCup’s business model is also quite unique in that it does not profit from product sales. The stadiums receive free installation of the racks. The LavCup team will then design and sell the advertisements that will be displayed on the shelf in that bathroom, splitting the revenue with the location that agrees to install the shelf.

Sneaker làm từ rác thải

The desire of the two co-founders Khanh Tran and Son Chu for a sport shoe that is both beautiful and environmentally friendly inspired the creation of this sneaker. Each pair of shoes is made from 300 grams of coffee grounds (roughly 21 cups of coffee) and 6 500 ml recycled plastic bottles.

Humans, in fact, consume 2 billion coffee cups per day and 3 million plastic bottles per hour. Coffee grounds emit methane, one of the primary contributors to climate change, and our planet is drowning in plastic waste.

Rens has created eco-friendly but stylish sneakers by utilizing sustainable technology and materials. Furthermore, the natural antibacterial properties of coffee assist the shoes in deodorizing throughout their entire life cycle.

Ren is expected to ship in November 2020, according to Kickstarter information. Users have helped to reduce the amount of plastic waste and methane-producing organic waste in landfills by using Rens products.
